Located close to the borders of Laois and Tipperary, Crosspatrick maintains the strong tradition of Kilkenny hurling that stretches back for centuries. One of the earliest inter-county games is recorded as having taken place on the fair green of nearby Urlingford in August 1768, when Kilkenny and Tipperary played for a prize of 20 guineas. In September of the same year, the baronies of Galmoy (where Crosspatrick is situated) and Ossory, in County Laois, were to play each other in nearby Durrow. Sport is an important part of the recreational activities of Crosspatrick school, and while many sports are participated in and encouraged in the school, hurling is the most popular among the pupils. Though small in numbers, the school still manages to field a team of boys and girls who proudly wear the Kilkenny colours when they take the field. Because pupils from both the parishes of Galmoy and Johnstown attend the school, pupils, when playing for their parish, may either play for Galmoy or Fenians (Johnstown) GAA clubs. Below are some pupils in the Galmoy colours.
